Re: District COVID-19 Plan / High School Remote Learning
Hello to all,
Yesterday, we decided to go to remote learning at Wynford High School from December 8, 2020, to December 16, 2020. The reason we are going remote is due to the increased positive student cases (3) since Thursday, December 3, 2020. On Monday morning, December 7, 2020, the high school office was contacted by several parents stating that their children were showing symptoms of the virus and were heading to get tested. At this point, the high school has 76 students quarantined due to COVID-19, and 70 students from the Pioneer Career and Technology Center are doing remote learning. More importantly, we feel that number was increasing in the high school and going to remote learning made sense.
Currently, the middle school has very little absences with no positive students and only a few quarantined. Since the high school and middle school share space in the same building, we hope we can possibly stop the spread to the lower grades and keep the middle school face to face. The elementary school only has a few quarantined students with no staff or students testing positive at this time. We will look at each building separately in hopes of keeping students face to face.
I want to thank all staff for their cleaning efforts and positive attitudes. The Wynford School employees are working hard to keep students in school. They realize how important school being in session is to each and every student.
We will be modifying our Wynford COVID-19 Reopening Plan. As mentioned in the plan, it can change at any time. When the plan was created months ago, it stated that if Crawford County goes to purple (level 4) on the Public Health Advisory Alert System, the district would go to remote learning. At that time, that was the state plan. Since then, the governor has left the decisions to the local school districts. We will take each situation as it comes. For instance, if Crawford County changes to purple tomorrow, we would stay face to face for grades PK-8. We will continue to receive guidance from the Crawford County Health Department while making these decisions.
