Dive into Reading

The Wynford PTO is holding a read-a-thon in conjunction with Right to Read Week at the elementary.

How does the read-a-thon work? There are two components. The first is the Right to Read Activity Sheet that came home in every elementary child's packet. There are fun challenges to complete to encourage reading. Fill out the bingo card and return it to your child's teacher for a cool prize sponsored by PTO. Plus, every 5 activities your child completes on the bingo card earn one entry into a prize drawing!

The second component is a pledge drive. We hope your child will consider asking others to fuel their excitement for reading. It's easy to ask for pledges. Use the paper form in the packet, or visit https://go.ptoffice.io/wynford/ and search for your child under students. This will bring up your child's individualized fundraising page. Share this link with family members, friends, etc. Every $25 your child collects will earn an entry into the prize drawing. Funds raised will be spent on enrichment activities for all students at Wynford Elementary. Students are committing to read 50 minutes during read-a-thon at school, outside of normal instructional time. No need to calculate minutes; PTO will enter the minutes for students at the conclusion of the read-a-thon. Pledges will be based upon 50 minutes of reading. If you need some ideas for asking for pledges, check out the ideas in the read-a-thon packet that came home! Friends and family love to support students, and this is a quick and meaningful way to invite them to show your child that reading is fun and important. Plus, PTO is able to keep nearly all of the funds, which allows us to give back more to the elementary students.

Students earn entry tickets into a prize drawing both through their reading activities and through their fundraising. Prizes to be given away include a hoverboard, a Kindle, an Amazon Echo, and more. The more activities student complete on their Activity Sheet and the more pledges they collect, the more entries they earn.
